How to save an Instagram Live: your recording and the limits
An Instagram Live does not live forever by default: after you end it, the platform offers to share the recording and/or save it. Old guides leaned on IGTV — that separate app is no longer the path.

What happens to Live after End
The platform usually offers: share the recording (feed / Stories / other surfaces) and save the file to the device — the set depends on the app version and account type.
Without action, the recording may leave quick access. Plan to save right after the Live while the choice screen is still open.
Don’t treat IGTV as a separate “vault” for Lives anymore: in old texts “upload to IGTV” means “publish the video recording with the current tools.”
Your Live: built-in steps
End the broadcast → choose Share / publish the recording if you need a published recording for people who missed the Live.
Save to the phone (gallery / Photos) if you need a file for editing, the site, or YouTube — when the menu item is available.
Settings sometimes include Live/Stories autosave: handy, but it fills storage fast — keep a habit of clearing the archive.

If the author posted the recording to the profile — watch and save the way the built-in UI allows (for example Save on a post), without workarounds.
Browser extensions, “IG downloader,” and paid “download any Live” sites often ask for login, show ads, or carry malware. We don’t catalog those tools.
Screen-recording someone else’s Live without consent is ethics and copyright; for competitive notes, open posts and written takeaways are enough.
Technique and recording quality
For your own Live, also record with an external camera/recorder if you need a clean copy without UI and comments over the frame.
Long Live hours are hard on a phone: free space, charging, and stable Wi‑Fi matter more than a “pretty download later” button.
After saving, check the file before deleting it from the app — exports sometimes cut off.

Can I officially download someone else’s Live?
There is usually no built-in “download their Live” button. Third-party services are a risk zone and a rights issue.
Do Live likes and comments stay in the recording?
